Objectives:
The purpose of this session is to officially launch the new FP6
IST Grid projects by raising awareness and disseminating information
on the European Grid Research to a broader public audience interested
in Grid technologies.
The European IST Grid Research vision as set out in the recent
FP6 IST Call 2 is to advance, consolidate and mature Grid technologies
for widespread industrial, business and societal use. The portfolio
of projects selected has the potential for turning Europe’s
strong competence and critical mass in Grid Research into competitive
advantages for industry, business and society. The new Grid projects
have strong links with national Grid initiatives in the EU and
have a significant potential to structure the European Research
Area. They are expected to have a high impact on standardisation
and will considerably strengthen European leading edge in Grid
technologies and applications.
The speakers from each FP6 project will provide a clear description
of their respective project objectives, the innovation beyond
the current state of the art and the positioning in the Grid vision
mentioned above. The presentations will also cover the expected
results and benefits, the concrete use cases, and the potential
exploitation. The aim is to provide participants with a clear
picture of how the technological developments will fit and contribute
to the European vision for the Grid.
